Old Friends: Thoroughbred Retirement Farm | Georgetown, Kentucky

From the official site (OldFriendsEquine.org)   “Old Friends began as a retirement and rescue facility for pensioned Thoroughbreds… And so the plan became to bring at risk racehorses–those whose racing and breeding careers had come to an end–to Old Friends, provide them with the dignified retirement they deserve, and open the space to the public. By promoting these one-time celebrated horses through a campaign of education and tourism, we realized we could draw attention to all retired Thoroughbreds and all equines in need.”

Was thinking about my old buddy Bull inthe Heather and after searching, could not find a video of his Florida Derby win. So I went through some of my old tapes and found it! Posted today at this link: http://youtube/yl1iRTTZnnA Please enjoy

I have a mare by Fortunate Prospect, and I enjoyed looking at the video, although my computer kept freezing up, so I’ve not been able to see the whole thing. My mare, Fortunate Callie, looks so much like him, except that she has more white on her face. He looked like such a sweet horse in the portion of the video I was able to see, as my Callie is. Do you happen to have a picture of him that I could get, and I would be happy to make a donation, of course. I have the Old Friends books and enjoy looking at them. Beautiful pictures. Wonderful horses!! Thanks for doing what you do! My horses have been lucky, because I have kept them all. We still have seven. Oldest is 25 and the youngest is 12.

All the videos are wonderful, and thanks so much for posting them all. Little Silver Charm is hilarious…he can sure play a mean game of soccer!!

I have a special place ion my heart for Kiri’s Clown, so was happy to see his video. I rubbed horses at Belmont Park during the late 60′s thru the 70′s…Kiri’s sire, Foolish Pleasure was an ‘old friend’ of mine and he played a big part in my life. Kiri was very much like Foolish…he inherited his sire’s huge heart, determination, grit…and Liri’s always had the same ‘expression’ on his face coming down the tretch as Foolish did…his brow would scrunch up, his game face on, he’d dig in and find that extra something…total class. Foolish Pleasure did not let a horse go by if he could help it…I miss that horse still.
Kiri is a lucky horse to be able to live out his life at Old Friends…wish I didn’t live so far away, it’d be great to see this son of my ‘old friend’.

    Thanks for all you do!!
